dance emilia dance

Emilia has been participating in a dance group for quite a while now and the final performance was last night.  It was one thing to see her practice in a small room with the others but another to see her perform on a dim stage in front of a couple of hundred people.

Where did my little girl go?  In front of me was a confident 9 year old performing with all the passion and energy that she could muster.  She was up on stage all by herself dancing in front of a room full of strangers with no nerves in sight.

Children always amaze me with their ability to just get on with it - we adults definitely need to take a leaf or two out of their books.  And at the end she was jumping around with excitement - a mix of happiness because she had just done something totally awesome and sadness because it was the end of the show.

My little Emilia is definitely a performer at heart.  In the last few months I have seen her twice up on stage - in a recent beauty pageant and now this and both times she has never failed to amaze me.

Way to go Emilia!

off to Arequipa for a beauty pageant

Yes you read that right, Emilia and I headed to Arequipa to try our hand at the beauty pageant thing.  Emilia loves to perform so she was a natural up on stage but poor mum...I am just not cut out for the lifestyle of a pageant mum - far too stressful for my liking.

Not only did we need numerous costume changes for the television and radio appearances she did, but we also needed two beautiful costumes for the night of the pageant.  Emilia was there to represent Australia and we were assured that they had our national dress organised.  So the day of the pageant we went to collect it - but I am sure that somehow they interpreted Australia as Austria because our national dress failed to represent Australia in any way, shape or form.

So with a last minute dash to find a green dress and gold shoes with some matching gold jewellery to represent Australia's sporting colours:  green and gold - we got there in the end.

Chowing down on a Big Mac as Emilia was getting into her costume, she wasn't going to let the stress of modelling get to her.  For her first time she was simply amazing and oozed far more confidence than I could have at 9, let alone now.  Way to go Emilia!

Happy Mother's Day from my daughter to me!

This is a song she wrote and sang (with some help and some awesome accompaniment from one of our lodgers).  Great job girls!

And what's more, we even managed to sneak away from the hostel for a quiet Mother's Day lunch in Pisac.

The kids were very well behaved (wonders will never cease) and allowed my husband and I to relax and eat a meal in relative peace.
